The Page 69 Test

Hilary Davidson (author of "The Damage Done") has posted an interesting item about something called the Page 69 Test.

In the test, an author looks at and analyzes what's on page 69 of their novel while discussing how it connects to, and impacts, the rest of the novel -- stopping short of revealing any major spoilers, of course.

Pretty interesting. See what you think....

Now that's a great idea. Of course, there are already the page 29 and the page 99 ideas. The mind boggles. Maybe we should just make sure it's a good story and all the pages will be important.

Seriously, I see a blogging trend here. There are still a lot of pages to consider so these blogs have quite a lifespan ahead...

That was kind of cool- of course I had to look up my own page 69 (the number is suggestive in itself) and saw that it was a point in my book where we see Ryan actually has a good heart. And we start to see Shep is interested in her. A lot for one page. Of course, a stranger turning to the page to browse might be struck by the fact that page 69 revolves around a dead hooker with AIDS and her dead child, who also has AIDS.

I guess if they can't stomach page 69 they should leave my book on the shelf.

Thanks so much for posting this, Joe! Also, thanks to Kit and Holli for reading it and commenting. Marshal Zeringue has been running the Page 69 Test for quite some time, and he has a very interesting, eclectic group of authors who've contributed to it.
