OTP Blog Hijacked?

The two comments from my post yesterday are from “academia-research.com” and “buy term papers.” These are not human beings; they are websites that sell term papers. How did they get past the word ID test?  Maybe they have actual people who read blogs then comment using whatever company pays them to do so. There are a lot of people out of work. Maybe some are willing to sacrifice their personal integrity for a minimum wage job. Personally, I’d rather starve.

This spamming of the blog has been going on for months, Mike. I think Sunny had the best explanation. Yes, it's a form of advertising. No, it has nothing to do with us or the blog. I either ignore it or don't post for a while. Still, I don't think, if put in the same circumstance, you'd REALLY rather starve, would you? I try to think of this when I'm rude on the telephone to a telemarketer. Life is tough.

I've gotten these "spam" comments too, Mike, and it's frustrating. You wonder if anyone is actually reading your post! PS I'm a real person.

This seems like a strange place to try to promote term paper writing business. Makes you wonder what kind of college students are out there who are willing to sabotage their future degrees! When I was in undergraduate school, a senior in my class was thrown out of school because she failed to appropriately quote six words in a term paper. Not only was she thrown out, but I don't think she was able to get a degree anywhere else. She was the editor of the college yearbook.

I don't understand why anyone would do this just as I don't understand why anyone would choose to be a hacker. Don't they have anything better to do? They're obviously intelligent enough to figure out how to hack someone's computer. Why don't they use those skills to make the world a better place? I guess that will always be a mystery to me.

But it's so funny to see the post here from "Essay help". I'm actually laughing. Yeah. Absolutely "awesom."

Re Pat's comment on why this spamming is done. They do it for the money. They're working for a company doing "advertising." That's all. It's nothing personal. It's not about lack of integrity or ambition. It's a job and they need the money.

I have an idea - for one week, let's have everyone post nine times a day over at Essay Help. Be certain to include typos.

I'm supposed to be getting rid of those. Just hadn't checked back for awhile. On my own blog, if the comment is coherent, I leave it.

I agree with Monti, this certainly seems like a strange place to promote term papers, but they might be taking the shot gun approach.
The thing about term papers is that instructors are able to run tests on papers to look for plagiarism or cheating, so indeed; pretty stupid if you get thrown out for that!
