Happy New Year!

OTP Publisher, Billie Johnson
I love the New Year holiday! As far back as I can recall, I have been enamored of the 'out with the old and in with the new' concept that seems best attached to the shifting of years.

New Year's Day is, for me, a time of looking back over the preceding year, reviewing the goals I set on Jan 1, 2013 and seeing how we measured up.

OTP's goal for new titles in 2013 was 50...and I am sad to say we fell one short, releasing 49 throughout 2013. Although I am not happy to have missed the goal, I think there is still much to be proud of with 49.

Who who knew last January that in March 2013, we would learn OTP's building was being sold and we faced a move! It would have been a big enough upset to simply shift ourselves down the road a space in Illinois, but we decided to use this as an opportunity to return to California, a place that claimed my heart in the mid 1960s and feels more like home than anywhere else. It was a herculean task to make a very NOT portable business and its owner portable enough to shift 2000 miles west, and we are still sorting out various challenges connected with the move as 2013 closes and 2014 opens. But the move was a positive one all around, and we are delighted.

Another thing I like about marking the new year is that OTP's anniversary falls shortly February. This year, 2014 marks the 16th year since Oak Tree Press was founded.  We've had some tough years along the way, but I am intensely proud of the fact that we have endured, thrived, and grown in a tough, competitive and ever-changing industry.

Press Manager, Jeana Thompson
Office Manager, Suzi Yazell
Much of what OTP accomplishes is due to the whirlwind efforts of our staff, Jeana, our Press Manager who never stops driving for promotion options for our books and authors, and Suzi, our Office Manager who keeps all those infrastructure things rolling along, plus heads up our E-book programs.

Our booth and authors at WORDSTOCK in Portland
At OTP, we think our authors are the driving force of the company. We have such a fabulous array of talented writers! We have quite a few authors who have been with us for 10-plus years, authors with whom we have done numerous titles. We appreciate these relationships and are proud of our accomplishments together. And we have many new authors coming on board for 2014 titles...authors we are excited to get to know and enjoy.

Acquisitions Editor Marilyn Olsen

OTP's catalog is approaching 250 titles....most available in Kindles as well as paper! We're shooting for a 60-title list for 2014, and thanks to the fine efforts of Acquisitions Editor Marilyn Olsen, we have 40 of those filled already.  We encourage everyone to keep checking back here for news of what is upcoming, title-wise as well as the activities of our authors.

So, Happy New Year to all!

Sounds like you have your ducks in a row, Billie. Congratulations to you, Jeana Suzi and Marilyn Olson (not to be confused with that fine author Marilyn Meredith).

With the reputation Oak Tree is building, I have no doubt that your Acquisitions Editor (Marilyn Olson) will fill all those 2014 slots.

Happy New Year to all of you!
